Good news for Barn4 member Lambda energy, as they recently secured a £750k government grant in collaboration with Pilkington, the University of Bath, the University of Cambridge and NIAB to develop enhanced glass for use in greenhouses to increase crop yield without the need for artificial lights.
Lambda Energy is developing advanced materials that can be coated on glass or infused in polytunnel plastic to increase the amount of red light available to plants. Crop yields can be improved by converting parts of the light spectrum that plants cannot use into a wavelength they can. They will be undertaking trials at NIAB next year.
