Meet the member: Croptimise

Croptimise recently joined the Barn4 community as a Germination Member. We recently posed some introductory questions to the Croptimise team, to discover more about their innovative technology.

What does Croptimise do?

Croptimise is building a next generation global platform to give growers the tools they need to make the pest epidemic manageable, by making pests predictable and detectable. We’re building a network of computer vision enabled smart traps to track pests and combining this with state of the art machine learning models to build accurate and actionable pest forecasts.

Tell me about Croptimise’s growth journey so far.

We’re forming partnerships with research institutes like Fera Science to trial our technology in Q1, and building relationships with ag-tech companies so that we can begin taking this to market immediately.

Can you introduce me to the Croptimise team and their backgrounds, and what inspired you to start Croptimise?

Amit has a data and product background and has worked with a number of corporates and startups. Tauseef was the CTO at his previous startup, and Charlie has a Commercial background having worked as a consultant with startups and FTSE 100 companies. We came together on the Carbon13 venture builder programme in September last year. We all wanted to build a climate tech venture which is why we were on the C13 program, and we saw crop yields and disease as a massive space - challenging but with the chance to make a tangible change.

What are your future ambitions for Croptimise? How will the Barn4 Germination programme help Croptimise achieve these?

We are looking to develop and distribute pest detection tools that will utilise computer vision. We need access to the situations in farms or greenhouses where we can gather that data to develop and test our models - this will be an area where we can utilise Barn4’s help.

If you were to give advice to another start-up, what would that be?

Ascertaining co-founder commitment at the start is critical to forming a team
