Summary of the Opportunity:

The initial focus is an 18-24 month project (deliverable) offering the opportunity to build out a totally new and patented approach to animal protein expression in plants. Reporting directly to the founders and senior scientific management, this role will not only involve leading and directing teams but also working closely with the CEO, COO, and Senior Management giving scope to directly impact the R&D and direction of the company. Longer term could involve a move to the US and directly into senior management.

 

 

Specific Responsibilities

• Lead a team of laboratory staff to achieve the company’s R&D objectives

•  Planning and execution of the R&D roadmap leading to the optimisation of our protein

•  Develop lab protocols for characterisation and optimisation assays

• Working closely in the lab on day-to-day tasks, ensuring all activities comply with all on-site health, safety, and environmental regulations

•  Provide troubleshooting and supervision to junior scientists

• Work with a multi-disciplinary team of biologists, plant scientists, and senior management

 

Qualifications

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology, Biotechnology or related discipline

• 3+ years working with plant expression systems/molecular farming

• Direct experience leading scientific teams

• Core laboratory skills and molecular biology techniques including PCR, molecular cloning, tissue culture and protein analysis

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced climate tech company

• Detail conscious with good analytical and quantitative skills, along with ability to deliver high quality reports

• Strong communication and Influencing skills - internally and externally
